Cricket is one of the most popular sports all around the world, probably after football. If a player is competing at a respectable level, they will likely continue to play for more than ten years. Your bank account will always be safe if you represent your national team in cricket. Even after retirement, many cricketers wish to have another career in cricket as commentators and coaches.

Meanwhile, former New Zealand fast bowler Chris Martin had different plans as he opted to run a grocery store in Eastbourne, New Zealand. Martin started with a mini store right after his retirement but managed to own a bigger store in 2019. He talked about the same and said that many fans come to his store to buy things and also to meet him but as a businessman, he wants to grow his business by delivering great quality goods.

“You need to create that feeling that it is Chris’s Store and he’s there and he’s going to help you out. You are going to see him on the counter and see him stacking products. Initially, when I did finish my cricket and started in Palmy, I had a lot of people coming in to just see me. And that isn’t really going to make a business fly. If they are going to be customers in the long-term then it’s not going to be me impressing them but the store,” Martin was quoted as saying by Zee News.

Interestingly, Martin didn’t want to become a cricketer initially as he was an Arts student and wanted to live a normal life. But Martin knew that he had great talent and he shouldn’t just waste it so he decided to become a cricketer. Surprisingly, he also performed well as in 71 Test appearances, the right-arm fast bowler took 233 wickets at an average of 33.81. He also has 10 fifers in the longest format.
