Former India cricketer gives his honest opinion on Prasidh Krishna’s Test debut
Prasidh Krishna did not have a good Test debut in Centurion. In the Boxing Day Test match against South Africa, Prasidh got an opportunity to represent India. However, Krishna was highly expensive in his spell and did not bowl well in the conditions that were helpful for the pacers. Given his style of bowling, which is suitable for Test cricket, a lot was expected from Prasidh.
But things did not turn out to be good for India. The bowling from Prasidh and the other two pacers, Shardul Thakur and Mohammad Siraj, was one of the main reasons behind the failure of the side in the first Test of the series. Speaking about the same, a former India pacer who has not disclosed the name has given his opinion. The unidentified pacer felt bad for Prasidh.
The ex-India pacer felt that Prasidh was not yet ready for bowling in Test cricket. The former pacer said that Prasidh does not have the skills to bowl with the old ball in the second and third spells. He added that the Indian team went with Prasidh for purely his ability to hit the deck hard. The person further claimed that Prasidh has not bowled regularly in the longer formats in recent times.
‘Avesh is same type of bowler like Prasidh but plays red-ball cricket more regularly’ – Ex-India pacer
“But they forgot when has he last played a proper season of Ranji Trophy? Just one India A game isn’t enough,” said the former Indian pacer. He further claimed that the current set of pacers do not have the same kind of excitement to perform in Test cricket like Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, and Siraj. The ex-India pacer concluded saying that Avesh Khan might be a better option.
“Avesh is same type of bowler like Prasidh but plays red-ball cricket more regularly. So, he might hit better lengths. Navdeep Saini is still playing India A for six years. That tells you the story,” added the former Indian pacer. Prasidh recently conceded the most expensive spell for an Indian bowler in a T20I game against Australia.
