Forgotten India batter set to replace Sam Whiteman for Northamptonshire’s three remaining matches in County Championship
Indian cricketer Karun Nair is set to play in County Cricket as he was recently announced as Northamptonshire County Cricket Club’s latest signing. Nair will be representing Northamptonshire in the remaining 3 matches of the tournament in place of Sam Whiteman who will be returning to Australia.
The 31-year-old batter has already gone to the United Kingdom on Friday, September 8 and is set to make his first appearance for Northamptonshire on Sunday, September 10. He talked about this opportunity to play for the iconic County Cricket club and said that he can make an impact on the team.
“I’m really looking forward to joining Northamptonshire and getting to play in the County Championship. You hear a lot about county cricket, and I know Prithvi Shaw really enjoyed his time with the team, so it’s exciting to have the opportunity to be involved too. Hopefully, I can make an impact on the team while I’m there, that’s the main thing for me. It’s about doing as much as I can to help the team get some wins in these last three games,” Nair was quoted as saying by Crictracker.
Karun Nair a high-class batter: John Sadler
Nair had a terrific start to his international career while playing for the Indian cricket team as he scored a triple-century for India in a Test match in 2016. But things didn’t go in his favour and he failed to cement his place in the team. However, he was constantly seen playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and his performance in first-class cricket has also been phenomenal. Northamptonshire’s head coach John Sadler lauded Nair and said that his arrival would boost the squad’s confidence.
“It’s great that we’ve been able to secure Karun to come over for the remainder of the season, he’s really keen to get going, he’s a high-class batter who’s scored something like 11,000 runs in his career and his first-class numbers are particularly special,” Sadler was quoted as saying by Crictracker.
