Five Indian players who won’t play Asia Cup 2023 but featured in previous edition
In the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, some players in the Indian team won’t be seen. These players played in the victorious 2018 edition and the forgettable 2022 edition. Due to many reasons, these players are not part of the upcoming edition, starting on August 30. - Deepak Chahar
The right-arm swing bowler played in last year’s tournament, played in the T20 format. Since February last year, the Agra-born has sustained multiple injuries at various times. This has led him to lose some pace, evident during the IPL 2023. This is the reason he has been left out of the squad.
2. Yuzvendra Chahal
The right-arm leggie’s exclusion has shocked many fans. Going by the words of the Indian Board chief selector Ajit Agarkar, his team deliberated around Chahal’s inclusion. However, the former said that looking at the team’s balance, Chahal has been left out but ‘the doors aren’t closed on him’.
3. Shikhar Dhawan
The left-hander played in the 2018 edition and scored two hundreds. Early this year, he was dropped from the ODI team and replaced by Shubman Gill. Even though the team might have moved on from Dhawan, they might miss his services during the tournament.
4. Bhuvneshwar Kumar
The 2013 Champions Trophy winner played in the last year’s Asia Cup. Not to forget, in the dead rubber against Afghanistan, he took the cheapest five-wicket haul for India, giving away only four runs. He played his last for India early this year and has been left out of the Asia Cup 2023 squad.
5. Dinesh Karthik
The two-time World Champion played as a finisher in last year’s Asia Cup. Not to forget, after a stellar IPL with the bat at number seven, he was drafted in the team till the T20 World Cup. Since then, he is yet to play a game for the team
