‘Ek Century hota toh aur maja aata’ – Fans laud Rohit Sharma for completing 10000 ODI runs during Sri Lanka ‘Super 4’ clash in Asia Cup 2023

Rohit Sharma was in action on 12 September 2023 against Sri Lanka in the ‘Super 4’ clash of the ongoing Asia Cup. After winning the toss, the team India skipper opted to bat and came out to open the innings along with Shubman Gill. Rohit came to this clash after scoring 56 runs off 49 balls against Pakistan in the last game. 

So, fans were hoping for a big knock from Rohit this time around. But, apart from that, he was inching closer to a milestone as he was just 22 runs short of the 10000-run mark in ODIs. Virat Kohli crossed the 13000-run mark in ODIs against the Men in Green. Hence, the stage was set for Rohit to achieve the milestone against the Lankans.

Speaking of the match, Rohit looked in sublime start as he kicked off his innings with a beautiful cover drive on the fourth delivery of the innings. Then, until, 26 deliveries, he scored 17 runs with one more boundary. But, on his 27th and the fifth delivery of the seventh over, Rohit came up with a lofted six straight to the line as it went straight back over Rajitha. With that six, he crossed the 10000-run mark in ODIs and became the second fastest batter to do so in 241 innings.

His teammate and the former Team India skipper, Virat Kohli is in the top spot with 205 innings. While, in the third spot, it is the former Team India great, Sachin Tendulkar who achieved this milestone in 259 innings. However, Rohit started the tournament on a good note with a fifty-plus score in the last game vs Nepal despite failing against Pakistan in the opening game. He continued his good form with another fifty. But, Rohit failed again to convert it into a big knock as he got out on 53 runs off 48 balls, including seven fours and two sixes. Dunith Wellalage took his wicket.
