India registered a mammoth 228-run victory over Pakistan in the ‘Super 4’ clash of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 on 11 September in Colombo. Virat Kohli notched up his 47th ODI and 77th international ton as he smashed 122* runs off 94 balls. He also won the Player of the Match award.

However, during that knock, he also became the fastest batter to cross the 13000-run mark in ODIs. He scored those runs in 267 innings and surpassed the former Team India legend, Sachin Tendulkar who reached the milestone in 321 innings. Now, another former Team India international, Gauta, Gambhir came up with a huge praise for Kohli while speaking on Star Sports regarding this massive achievement.

“Pushing for doubles are easy runs, compared to a big shot.” – Virat Kohli

Gambhir said: “Virat Kohli has reached a massive milestone of fastest 13000 runs in ODIs. There aren’t many cricketers who have scored so much runs. How much we appreciate his greatness, it is always more.” Speaking of that knock, Kohli also put up a 233*-run partnership with KL Rahul for the third wicket. Hence, India scored 356 runs for just two wickets in 50 overs. In reply, the Men in Green scored only 128 runs in 32 overs as Kuldeep Yadav bagged a fifer for just 25 runs in eight overs.

After winning the Player of the Match award at the post-match presentation, Virat Kohli said that initially, he was playing the second fiddle role as KL Rahul was hitting the ball brilliantly. He said: “I always prepared my game in a way I can help the team. Today was a classic example of you don’t get off to a good start… KL started better, I was trying to bring him on strike and playing second fiddle. And yes, then after that I stepped up where I could. I take a lot of pride in fitness. Pushing for doubles are easy runs, compared to a big shot. It has paid off before, hope to continue in the same way.”
