‘Ek aur career redemption hone wala hai’ – Fans react as Ravichandran Ashwin speaks about CSK’s possible investments in upcoming IPL auction

As the IPL auction in 2024 approaches, fans and cricket pundits have started preparing lists of probable picks by their favourite franchises. The auction will take place at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai on December 19. This will be the first time the auction will take place outside the country.

However, ahead of the auction, Star India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin made some predictions. In his latest YouTube video, Ashwin spoke about CSK’s need to find a reliable middle-order batter. He also name-dropped young Shahrukh Khan along with Karun Nair in the probable list. Although Ashwin believes that Nair will have more realistic chances to play for CSK,

Ashwin said, “I feel they will invest it in Karun Nair. They are searching for a replacement for Ambati Rayudu. Shahrukh is not a replacement for him at No. 4. I have no idea who they are going to play in that position this season. They might try a left-hand option, but if you look at CSK’s track record, they have never gone for an unknown commodity. They have never played anybody who just did well in their first season of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.”

Further explaining his comments, Ashwin said that CSK skipper MS Dhoni loves those players who can act as bridges in the middle order. He said, “So, Karun Nair, folks, brace yourself to see him in yellow. I am not committing to anything; I am just doing a little Ravi Shastri impression. He is somebody who can play spin well, who could sweep and reverse sweep.”

“MS Dhoni loves it when a batter can play between the top order and the middle order in the No. 4 slot, especially in Chennai. I feel Karun Nair is perfect for that. I haven’t seen Manish Pandey play spin too much in Chennai, but Karun Nair, remember, had a triple hundred in a Test match played in Chennai. He could also go to SRH; there will be competition so he could go for a decent price. He has also done well in county cricket recently,” he added.
