India won the first T20I at Mohali against Afghanistan. Opting to bowl first, India restricted Afghanistan to a score of just 158 runs, which was a brilliant effort from the bowlers. Barring Mohammad Nabi, no other batter could make a huge impact on the innings of Afghanistan. There were batters like Ibrahim Zadran and Azmatullah Omarzai, who got starts but could not convert them into big ones.

The Indian bowlers were brilliant from the word go. Arshdeep Singh started with a maiden over. Mukesh Kumar from the other end put pressure as well. It helped other bowlers who were able to choke the batters in the middle overs. Axar Patel was brilliant with the ball and claimed 2/23 in his 4 overs. Washington Sundar and Ravi Bishnoi did not have a great day.

The Pacers compensated for the bad days of the spinners. Shivam Dube in his couple of overs was handy and covered up the overs of the spinners. Afghanistan scored 101 runs in their last 10 overs. The lack of acceleration in the first 10 overs proved costly for them. Chasing 159, India lost Rohit Sharma early, thanks to a miscommunication with Shubman Gill at the other end.

Shivam Dube the star

Despite the bad start, India marched on in the innings. Shubman continued and gave a good start, as he scored 23 runs in 12 balls. Tilak Varma in his stay in the middle tried to consolidate the innings but could not convert it to a big one. The hero of the match was Shivam Dube, who shined both with the bat and with the ball. The Southpaw paced a good inning with the bat.

In his stay in the middle, the 30-year-old scored an unbeaten 60*(40), which included 5 fours and 2 sixes. At the other end, Jitesh Sharma played a good knock as well, scoring 31 runs in 20 balls. Towards the end, Rinku Singh helped Dube to finish the match as soon as possible. As a result, India ended up beating Afghanistan with 15 balls to spare, as they claimed a 1-0 lead in the series.
