One of the most renowned actresses of her era, Simi Garewal, celebrates her 76th birthday on October 17. In addition to her notable roles in movies like Mera Naam Joker, Karz, and Andaz, the veteran diva is also well-known for her popular talk show, “Rendezvous with Simi Garewal.”

Simi Garewal, originally known as Simrita Garewal, achieved fame throughout her career through her work in hit films and her role as a celebrity talk show host. She has received numerous awards, including two Filmfare Awards and one Indian Television Academy Award. She made her debut in the Bollywood film industry in 1962 with “Raat Ki Baat,” and in the 1960s and 70s, she collaborated with some of the industry’s biggest names.

Simi Garewal also had a significant connection with the renowned industrialist Ratan Tata. She always recalls Tata as a perfectionist and has mentioned in an interview that they share a long history. She has also spoken highly of him, emphasizing that money was never his primary motivation.

“Ratan and I go back a long way. He’s perfection, he’s got a sense of humour, is modest and the perfect gentleman. Money was never his driving force. He’s not as relaxed in India as he is abroad.” Simi was quoted as saying by Filmibeat.

Simi Garewal hosted 2 talk shows in her career

Following the conclusion of her show “Rendezvous with Simi Garewal,” the actress embarked on another talk show called “Simi Selects India’s Most Desirable” on Star World. In this program, she engaged in candid conversations with some of India’s renowned actors, including Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Anushka Sharma, and Priyanka Chopra. Unfortunately, the show had a relatively short run of only 22 episodes.

During a media interview, Simi Garewal claimed that “Simi Selects India’s Most Desirable” did not achieve the anticipated audience response. She believed that the viewers were accustomed to her more formal style in “Rendezvous” and found it challenging to accept her in her new, more relaxed, and lighthearted persona on the new show. According to Simi Garewal, the chat show faced significant opposition, which was disheartening.
