Dean Elgar has reacted to the pitch at Cape Town between India and South Africa on his retirement Test. The South African captain felt that the pitch was not bad as he personally has good numbers playing at Cape Town in Test cricket. The Star batter claimed that the wickets have been pretty good at Cape Town in SA, which is also visible in the way he has scored runs at the venue in his career.

“I cannot say that (the pitch is bad) because personally, I have had success on wickets that have gone around. My record on our wickets has been pretty good,” said the South African captain. A whopping 23 wickets on the first day’s play at Cape Town which has received criticism from the former cricketers, fans, and experts. The wicket is only expected to get worse for batting.

The South African opener felt that there was a steep bounce from the end Ngidi operated. He acknowledged the fact that it was more than normal. He added that he did not know what to make of it and felt that the end from where Ngidi bowled was the toughest to bat on. Ngidi at one point ended up picking 3 wickets in 5 balls and 2 of them were more than capable of batting.

‘I do not know what to make of it’ – Dean Elgar

“There was a lot steeper bounce that way (from where Ngidi bowled). And that side, it was a little bit lower. So, I do not know what to make of it,” added Elgar in his statement. South Africa ended the 1st day with a score of 62/3 and are currently trailing by 38 runs in the first innings. They have a long way to go in the ongoing Test.

Elgar appreciated the way the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Aiden Markram batted on a pitch that was not too easy to bat on. The star batter added that he does not know how the pitch would behave on the second day when asked about the same. However, he believed that the batters who can get set in the middle can have better chances of succeeding in the middle.
