Australia and Sri Lanka are clashing against each other in the 14th match of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Monday, October 16. Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first.

Meanwhile, in a heart-stopping moment that left cricket fans on the edge of their seats, Australia’s star opener David Warner’s World Cup journey was nearly derailed after he took a magnificent catch to dismiss Kusal Mendis during the first innings. His catch was nothing short of spectacular, however, he nearly ended up injuring himself but somehow escaped narrowly.

It was a flighted delivery from Adam Zampa on off-side in the 28th over, Mendis played a big slog sweep but top-edged it slightly to the left of Warner at deep square leg who kept his eyes on the ball and gobbled it up with a bit of a tumble. However, he also took out a patch of grass with his tumble and looked in a little trouble after completing the catch, however, that was nothing serious as he continued to the field.

Brilliant bowling performance by Australia

Talking about the match, batting first, Sri Lanka started brilliantly as openers Kusal Perera and Pathum Nissanka stitched a massive 125-run stand for the first wicket. Both smashed their individual half-centuries and set the foundation for the upcoming batters to put up a big total on the scoreboard.

But then the Australian skipper Pat Cummins removed both the openers. Adam Zampa got his act together after an average start. Starc nipped a few at the end and Glenn Maxwell finished it off. Apart from the openers, none of them came to the party. From 125/0 to 209/10, the Sri Lankan team suffered a massive collapse. However, Australia will look to get past the target with a good run rate as they are already at the bottom of the points table.
