David Warner gives mouth-shutting reply to critics after brilliant performance in ODI World Cup 2023

David Warner, renowned as one of Australia’s most formidable opening batters, left an indelible mark on the ODI World Cup 2023 with a remarkable campaign. Amassing a total of 535 runs in 11 innings at an impressive average of 48.63, including two centuries and as many half-centuries, he secured the position of the 6th highest run-scorer in the tournament.

Warner‘s impact extended beyond his batting prowess; his fielding was nothing short of exceptional. His brilliant displays and incredible catches were instrumental in saving an estimated 30-40 runs for his team. Post this memorable campaign, Warner took to X (formerly Twitter) to fire a response at his critics.

David Warner is not part of Australia’s T20I squad against India

The 37-year-old is likely concluding his ODI World Cup journey, having amassed an impressive record of 1527 runs at an average of 56.55 and a strike rate of 101.14. His remarkable performance includes six centuries and five half-centuries in the competition. Despite this, Warner won’t feature in the upcoming T20I series against India, starting this Thursday.

After an extensive tour of India that commenced with an ODI series in late September and the World Cup, Warner is heading back home. Cricket Australia explained in a statement that the decision for Warner to return was based on his successful yet demanding World Cup campaign. 

In his absence, allrounder Aaron Hardie has been called up for the five-match series, a crucial preparation phase for the T20 World Cup scheduled for the next year. The leadership reins for the series will be handed to wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade, as several key players are being rested following their World Cup triumph. Australia’s home season will kick off with a Test series against Pakistan in December, marking the conclusion of Warner’s illustrious career in the format, as he has announced his decision to retire.
