Former India opener Virender Sehwag is known to speak his heart out. His words often make headlines and something similar was on display on Saturday, August 5. He replied on Twitter to an user’s question asking him about his interest in Politics on his recent post about calling Team India as ‘Team Bharat’ following the name-change speculations.

“I am not at all interested in politics. Have been approached by both major parties in the last two elections. My view is that most entertainers or sportsman should not enter politics as most are there for their own ego and hunger for power and barely spare genuine time for people, few are exceptions but generally most only do PR. I love being involved with cricket and commentating and being a part time MP whenever convenient is not something i ever aspire for,” he wrote.

‘Ensure that this World Cup our players have Bharat on our chest’ – Virender Sehwag

Notably, Sehwag has started a brigade on justifying the likely remaining of India to Bharat. Earlier today, he urged the Indian Cricket Board to print Bharat instead of India on their jerseys for the 2023 ODI World Cup. He wrote, “I have always believed a name should be one which instils pride in us. We are Bhartiyas, India is a name given by the British & it has been long overdue to get our original name ‘Bharat’ back officially. I urge the Indian Cricket Board and Jay Shah to ensure that this World Cup our players have Bharat on our chest.”

“In the 1996 World Cup, Netherlands came to play in the World Cup in Bharat as Holland. In 2003 when we met them, they were the Netherlands & continue to be so. Burma have changed the name given by the British back to Myanmar. And many others have gone back to their original name,” he further added. Fans were quick to relate Sehwag’s arguments to politics and his opening partner Gautam Gambhir’s involvement in the same. As a result, Gambhir was heavily trolled in the comment section.
