‘Comeback ho toh Jassi jaisa’ – Fans go crazy as Jasprit Bumrah returns for Ireland T20I series as skipper of Team India

Team India are currently busy playing in the three-match ODI series in West Indies. After the third ODI on 1 August 2023, they will play a five-match T20I series against the Windies. But, then, they are scheduled to travel to Ireland for a three-match T20I series. The series will run from 18 to 23 August.

However, there were reports that injured players like Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Prasidh Krishna might make a comeback in the series. Recently, the secretary of the Indian Cricket Board, Jay Shah also shared he is most likely to get a place in the squad for the series. However, it turned out to be true when India’s squad for the Ireland tour got announced on 31 July 2023. But, fans went crazy as Bumrah returned to the squad as the skipper of the team.

Jasprit Bumrah has already led Team India once in Test cricket  

Speaking of the team, Bumrah was named as the captain while youngster Ruturaj Gaikwad got announced as the vice-captain. Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma got selected as two wicket-keeping options. Rinku Singh also got his maiden call-up along with the likes of Shivam Dube, Ravi Bishnoi, and Washington Sundar also made a comeback. Prasidh Krishna also made a comeback while other pacers will be Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar, and Avesh Khan. Speaking of Bumrah, he last played for the Men in Blue in September 2022. 

After that, due to that back injury, he missed all big tournaments like the Asia Cup and the 20-20 World Cup in 2022. Then, in 2023, he missed the entire IPL for Mumbai Indians (MI) and the WTC final. Recently, the Indian Cricket Board shared a medical update on 21 July where it was claimed that Bumrah and Krishna’s progression made the medical happy. Hence, recently, they played an intra-squad practice game at the Alur cricket ground outside of Bengaluru. Both of them bowled their 10-over quota and grabbed wickets also respectively.
