‘Chokli kuch toh sharam kar le ab’ – Fans react as David Warner claims third T20I against West Indies to be his last T20I game at home
David Warner has made a huge claim on his future in T20Is. After the end of the 3rd T20I against the West Indies at Perth, the star batter claimed that it was his last game at home in T20 cricket for Australia. The announcement of Warner shocked the fans who thought him to play a lot in the shortest format of the game for Australia.
Last year, Warner announced his retirement from Test cricket in the early part. He set the series against Pakistan to be his last assignment in the longest format of the game. After Australia won the ODI WC 2023, Warner announced his retirement from ODIs as well. However, the Southpaw claimed himself to be available for Australia’s services in the Champions Trophy 2025.
Warner claimed the motive behind his decision to focus on T20 cricket. He is likely to enjoy the last few years of his career playing for T20 leagues across the globe. In the third T20I, Warner scored 81 runs in 49 balls chasing a mammoth total of 221 runs at Optus Stadium. It seems like Warner has ended his last game at home on a terrific note as a batter.
‘It’s time for the youngsters to come through and show their talent’ – David Warner
After the match, Warner arrived at the post-match conference. The star batter claimed that playing franchise cricket was a good experience for him. The 37-year-old added that he has a lot of time to think about his future after the series against New Zealand. The star batter claimed to be focused on playing in the IPL 2024 and in the T20 WC 2024 later this year.
He then made a shocking announcement and claimed himself to be well and truly done. Warner asked the younger talents to come forward and showcase their talent for Australia. “I’m well and truly done, it’s time for the youngsters to come through and show their talent,” said Warner in his statement. The announcement of the star batter did not go well with the fans, who expressed their disappointment on the news.
