In the first Test of the ongoing two-match series, India continues to struggle against South Africa. Despite a poor performance from the hosts, India lost five wickets for a mere 100 odd runs. After losing early wickets in the first session, India was looking comfortable with Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli in the middle.

However, at the start of the second session, star South African pacer Kagiso Rabada dismissed both of them to push India way back in the game. Iyer, in his inning, scored 31 runs off 50 balls with the help of three fours and a six. He was dismissed just after the lunch break, which also broke a 68-run partnership between him and Virat Kohli for the fourth wicket.

Kohli, who was looking in great touch, also fell after Iyer’s departure. He had a thin outside edge as Rabada continued to fire in Centurion. In his inning, Kohli scored 38 runs off 64 balls with the help of five boundaries. With this wicket, South Africa bundled half of the Indian team back into the pavilion. However, wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul and spin allrounder Ravichandran Ashwin are trying to rescue India.

India had a poor start in Centurion

Earlier in the game, after winning the toss, South African skipper Temba Bavuma opted to field first. The decision went well with the team as India skipper Rohit Sharma threw his wicket. He was caught off guard while trying to pull a short-pitch delivery for a boundary. However, he fell short and found a feiler at the deep square leg.

After his departure, debutant Nandre Burger removed Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Both youngsters failed to put up a show and left India struggling for 24/3 in 11.1 overs. It’s worth noting that India has never won a Test series in South Africa, and this series holds great significance in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle.
