‘Bro woke up and decided to choose violence’ – Fans react as David Warner wants umpire stats on big screens after his controversial LBW dismissal against Sri Lanka

Australian star batter David Warner has made a unique and rather intriguing request. The left-handed batter took the unusual step of calling for umpire statistics to be displayed on the big screen. This unprecedented move by the prolific left-handed opener sheds light on the growing importance of transparency and technology in modern cricket.

However, it is quite evident why Warner wants to see umpire’s stats on the big screens. He was declared LBW by umpire Joel Wilson during the 14th match of the ODI World Cup. A delivery from the left-arm fast bowler Dilshan Madhushanka hit his pad very close to the leg stump.

Warner quickly opted for a review, and the Hawk-Eye technology revealed that the ball had deviated just enough to graze the leg stump. This resulted in Warner displaying visible frustration on the field, though it’s important to note that his frustration was primarily directed at the technology’s decision rather than umpire Wilson.

“I think in terms of what I’d like to see, this probably won’t get across but players’ stats go up on the board as you walk out to bat. When they announce the umpires and they come up on the screen. I’d love to see their stats come up on the board as well. We see that in the National Rugby League (NRL). I know this is a world game but NRL shows those stats. I think the NFL shows those stats. I think it’s a great thing for the spectators to see that as well,” Warner was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

It’s something that could be explored: David Warner

Warner further added and said that the players get dropped when they perform poorly, however, sometimes the reason behind that can be a bad decision from the umpire. He said that this is something that could be explored for the betterment of players.

“I think over a period of time. You know, obviously, players get dropped for poor performances. It’s never explained to us what goes on with the panel as well. So it’s just an indicator. But it’s just little things that show the spectator. It’s not easy. So you know, you can explain where it’s not easy, why it’s not easy. And then when good decisions are made. And they can explain it. So I just think it’s something that could be explored,” he added.
