Brendon McCullum addresses bad form of Jonny Bairstow against India
Brendon McCullum addressed the bad form of Jonny Bairstow in the ongoing series between India and England. The head coach of England backed Bairstow to come good in the last two Tests of the series against India. So far in the series, the right-handed batter has not scored more than 100 runs. The middle order batter has not scored even a fifty in the series.
The star batter’s highest score against India has been 37. The poor form of Jonny has raised a lot of questions. Alastair Cook, the former England batter, believed Bairstow must be dropped from the team. He added that Dan Lawrence must be given a chance in the last two Tests against India. However, Brendon backed Bairstow and hoped of blocking the ‘Outside noice’.
McCullum confirmed that Bairstow would play the rest of the series. He added that the experienced batter needs some confidence to keep him focused on the upcoming games. McCullum claimed Bairstow to be a wonderful player. He added that Jonny is a batter for all conditions and felt that one must give him confidence in difficult times.
‘We’ve got to keep on giving him confidence and block out a lot of the external noise’ – Brendon McCullum
“I’m not blind but he’s done so well for us. We know that a top-quality Jonny Bairstow is as good as anyone in any condition, so we’ve got to keep on giving him confidence and block out a lot of the external noise,” said McCullum. England needs to win the fourth Test at all costs to stay alive in the series. They are currently trailing 1-2 in the series with two games to go at Ranchi and Dharamshala respectively.
The form of some of the key players has been the biggest concern for England. Apart from Bairstow, Joe Root has also been suffering from a lack of runs. While Bairstow at least has a good score to his name, Root has been literally owned by the bowlers of India, particularly by Jasprit Bumrah. The two senior batters must be at their best for England to win the series from here.
