Big Bash champion Luke Williams takes charge as RCB’s head coach for WPL

After the disappointing inaugural season of the Women’s Premiere League (WPL), the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) management has appointed Luke Williams as their brand new head coach for the 2nd edition of the league on Saturday, September 30. He will be replacing Ben Sawyer as the head coach.

Williams has a brilliant record as a head coach. He guided Adelaide Strikers to the Women’s Big Bash title in 2022. Earlier, he also coached the team in 2019 and 2021 where they finished as the runners-up. The Chief Commercial Officer, of Diageo India, and Chairman of RCB, Prathmesh Mishra expressed the happiness of having Willimas as their new head coach.

“I extend a heartfelt welcome to Luke Williams as he takes the reins of the RCB women’s team. With his expertise and leadership, our goal is to embody the spirit of Royal Challengers Bangalore, to play bold and embark on a journey filled with determination, passion, and a relentless pursuit of excellence, aiming to make our fans and supporters proud.” Mishra was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

Williams has played domestic cricket for Australia and apart from his successful coaching run with Adelaide Strikers, he has also served as the assistant coach of Southern Brave in the Women’s Hundred 2023 where the team won their maiden title. Williams expressed his excitement about joining the RCB camp. He said that the team will look to bring a bold and exciting style of play to entertain the huge fanbase.

“I am thrilled to have been provided this opportunity with RCB and can’t wait to get started with the team’s preparations for the second season of the WPL. I look forward to working with a playing group that will host a number of the most exciting players in Indian and world cricket as we look to bring a bold and exciting style of play and success to our huge and passionate fan base,” Williams was quoted as saying by Cricktracker.
