New Zealand batter Rachin Ravindra has been adjudged Player of the Match after the ODI WC 2023 opener. In the game, the defending champions, England lost the toss and were asked to bat first. They had a decent start but the team kept losing wickets which is why they were restricted to 282/9. Joe Root (77) was the only one to score a fifty.

Other players from the team failed to convert their starts. For the Blackcaps, Matt Henry took three wickets while Mitchell Santner and Glenn Philips took two wickets. On the other hand, Trent Boult and Ravindra took one each. In reply, the two-time finalists had a poor start with Will Young (0) bagging a golden duck. However, the likes of Ravindra and Devon Conway helped the team chase down the target with nine wickets left.

Both players scored an unbeaten hundred each with Conway (151) and Ravindra (123) helping the team register a massive win against the Three Lions.

This wicket was similar to a warm-up game in Hyderabad: Devon Conway

Recently, New Zealand thrashed Pakistan while chasing 345 runs during warm-up games in Hyderabad. During that game, Ravindra scored 97 runs.

“Sometimes it’s unbelievable at times, but great to have a great day out. The bowlers bowled well and lucky enough to have Devon out there. I spent a lot of time with Dev and we are very, very close mates. I was little more comfortable and I have a lot of chat with Dev – being able to do that in the middle is cool. For sure, if you asked us four-five years, we all knew the kind of player Dev would become. The surface was very good and lovely to bat on, similar to the warm-up game in Hyderabad,” Player of the Match, Ravindra said in the post-match presentation.
