Fans are being treated to an enthralling display of cricket as India’s formidable bowling duo, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah, dismantled England’s top order in the 29th match of the ODI World Cup 2023 in Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium on Sunday, October 29.

The match began with England’s captain, Jos Buttler, winning the toss and choosing to bowl first, a decision that appeared promising as they managed to limit India to a modest 229/9 in their allotted 50 overs. However, the real drama unfolded when England took to the crease.

England’s chase got off to a solid start, but it was Jasprit Bumrah who became the game-changer. At the end of his third over, Bumrah delivered a double blow, dismissing Dawid Malan and Joe Root off consecutive balls. This pivotal moment put the brakes on England’s progress and sent shockwaves through their batting lineup.

Mohammed Shami, not one to be outdone, then joined the party by removing the dangerous duo of Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow in his first two overs. With the top order crumbling under the relentless pressure of Shami and Bumrah, England found themselves in a precarious position.

Brilliant bowling performance by England

Earlier asked to bat first, India started horribly and England’s decision to bowl first paid off as they dismissed three Indian batsmen for just 40 runs, including Shubman Gill (9), Virat Kohli (0), and Shreyas Iyer (4). However, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul steadied the ship with a vital 91-run partnership for the 4th wicket.

Rohit completed his second half-century of the tournament. Just when it seemed India was regaining control, Rahul made an untimely exit at 39 runs. Rohit was on the verge of a century but lost his wicket attempting a six off Rashid’s delivery. Suryakumar Yadav contributed with a valiant 49 runs off 47 balls, including 4 fours and 1 six, falling short of his maiden World Cup half-century. India posted a total of 229 runs after 50 overs.
