In the ongoing 45th game of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, India’s Mohammed Siraj got himself hit on the throat. In the 15th over of the ongoing Netherlands innings, Max O’Dowd played a lofted shot but Siraj, who was at long-on, dropped a sitter. Even though his teammates weren’t happy, they were more concerned with the right-arm pacer getting hit on the throat.

Apparently, while the ball burst through his hands, it went straight to the throat. Right after this, the Royal Challengers Bangalore player in the IPL left the field holding his throat. When Virat Kohli came on to bowl his first over of the game, Siraj returned to the field. This means that the latter was out of the field for the 9-10 overs.

However, despite Siraj’s return to the field, he is yet to bowl another over. In the last few overs, the likes of Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Suryakumar Yadav have bowled a few overs. The former India skipper took the wicket of the Dutch skipper Scott Edwards down the leg side. Talking about the game, the home team won the toss and elected to bat first.

Thanks to half-centuries from skipper Rohit Sharma, Gill, and Kohli and centuries from KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, the team reached 401/4 at the end of the innings. For the first time since the 2007 ODI World Cup, the team scored a 400-plus total.

Mohammed Siraj will be key to India’s fortunes in the semis

The Hyderabad pacer will be India’s key against New Zealand in the first semifinal of the tournament on November 15. He has taken 11 wickets in nine games. The former Sunrisers Hyderabad player in the IPL bowls with the new balls and is hoped to be fit for the game.

At the time of writing, he bowled another over in the 36th over of the game. He took the wicket of Wesley Baressi in the powerplay.
