‘Bas confusion hi confusion..’- Fans react to Aakash Chopra questioning team selection for Afghanistan series

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are back in the T20I format for the Afghanistan series. The two batters haven’t played the format since the 2022 T20I World Cup in Australia. Ruturaj Gaikwad, Suryakumar Yadav, and Hardik Pandya are missing because of injuries.

One of the biggest surprises was the axing of Ishan Kishan, who had been a huge part of the team last year. Fast bowling pair Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj were rested due to workload management.

After the team was announced former India star batter Aakash Chopra questioned the team selection. The 46-year-old took to Twitter and asked the reason behind Ishan Kishan getting dropped out from the team.

Aakash Chopra confused with team selection –

Former India opener turned commentator, Aakash Chopra was left bewildered with the squad selection on Sunday. Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer weren’t named in the team for the Afghanistan series. India and Afghanistan will play three T20I matches with Mohali hosting the first game on January 11.

Taking to Twitter, Chopra wrote “Iyer was nominated as the vice-captain for the five-match series against Australia. Was a part of the squad for the SA series too. Now, finds no place in the team for the Afghanistan series. Dubey was in the squad vs AUS at home. Wasn’t picked for SA. Back in the team vs AFG. Also, where is Ishan Kishan? Any news on his availability?

Ishan Kishan had pulled out of the South African series citing mental fatigue and flew back home. Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma are the two specialist wicketkeepers for the series. This comes as a massive blow for Ishan Kishan who now finds his T20I World Cup place in jeopardy.

Rohit Sharma has been named the skipper of the side thus confirming his role as the leader during the mega event. Star batter Virat Kohli too was back in the T20I scheme of things ahead of the World Cup in June.

India doesn’t have any more T20I commitments after this series as the players will directly play in the IPL. Finally, Aakash Chopra also wrote on Twitter “Two players who look cut out for T20 Cricket are Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rinku Singh. Hopefully, the team will stick with them for longer”

Mohali, Indore, and Bengaluru are set to host the three T20I games versus Afghanistan. Once the series ends on the 17th, India will get down to Test Cricket once against. England and India will lock horns in a five-match series starting on 25th January.
