Bangladesh Cricket Board have been suffering from an internal matter that has shaken the cricket universe. Bangladesh’s star opener Tamim Iqbal, who announced his retirement earlier this year but soon took it back a day later, has once again talked about the same after getting snubbed from Bangladesh’s squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup.

Meanwhile, star allrounder Shakib Al Hasan, who will be leading the side in the major world event, opened up on the ongoing controversy. Shakib said that one of the team members advised Tamim to leave the captaincy and let the successor get enough time to gain the experience of leading the team ahead of the World Cup.

“I have often heard in the dressing room that he is leaving the captaincy. Even a player once told him that ‘Bhai, leave it early so that the new captain gets a bit of time’. Exactly that’s what happened. The one who came in didn’t get the time. Each and everyone knew including the selectors and board officials. I don’t know why he didn’t leave it (earlier). He can tell you.” Shakib was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda.

A player should bat at any position: Shakib al Hasan

Shakib further added and expressed his disappointment with Tamim not batting in the middle order. He also gave an example of Indian captain Rohit Sharma who made his career from batting at the no. 7 position to an opener. Shakib said that Tamim is not thinking about the team at all.

“Someone like Rohit Sharma built his career from No. 7 to opener, scored 10,000-plus runs. If he sometimes bats at No. 3 or 4, would it be a big problem? It is totally childish. It is my bat, I will play. No one else can play. A player should bat at any position for the team. Team first. You are not thinking about the team at all.” he said.

Bangladesh’s World Cup Squad: Shakib Al Hasan (captain), Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud, Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das (vice-captain), Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Mehidy Hasan MirazShoriful Islam, Nasum Ahmed, Mahedi Hasan, Tanzid Hasan, Tanzim Hasan, Mahmudullah
