‘Badi acchi shuruat hui hai’ – Fans react as India beat Australia by 6 wickets in ODI World Cup 2023 clash in Chennai

India and Australia clashed against each other in the 5th match of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, October 8. The Men in Green displayed a brilliant all-round performance to defeat the Kangaroos by 6 wickets.

Talking about the match, Australia won the toss and opted to bat first, however, the Kangaroos were too slow throughout the innings as there were only 2 six smashed by the Australian batters and that too were hit by Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc. Australia were given an early setback by Jasprit Bumrah in the 3rd over. However, later, Steve Smith and David Warner steadied the ship.

But just when it looked like both batters were settled, it was Kuldeep Yadav who provided the much-needed breakthrough by dismissing David Warner on 41 runs. And then it was India’s star allrounder Ravindra Jadeja who dismantled Australia’s middle-order by dismissing Smith, Marnus Labuschagne and Alex Carey.

However, the Australian lower-order hung out to push the score to 199 as Mitchell Starc scored a useful 28 runs. Jadeja picked up the most wickets wickets (3) for India. Bumrah and Kuldeep picked up 2 wickets each. However, Hardik Pandya was quite expensive as he conceded 28 runs in just 3 overs.

Brilliant batting performance by Virat Kohli and KL Rahul

Chasing the target, India had a horrible start as they lost their first 3 wickets on just 2 runs in the first 2 overs of the 2nd innings. Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood didn’t even let the batters open their account as all 3 batters Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma and Shreays registered ducks.

However, later, it was former India captain Virat Kohli and KL Rahul batted brilliantly together and stitched a 165-run stand for the 4th wicket and sealed the victory for India. Kohli fell 15 runs short of the century but Rahul remained unbeaten on 97 runs and took the team to an unbelievable victory.
