Team India are in the driving seat in the first Test vs West Indies at Windsor Park, Dominica. Kraigg Braithwaite won the toss and elected to bat first but they could not capitalise on the opportunity as India bowled them out for 150 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin with 5/60 remained the pick of the bowlers whereas his spin twin Ravindra Jadeja contributed with a handy spell of 3/26. The remaining two wickets were shared one each between Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur.

In response, Team India have reached 400/4 at Lunch on Day 3. Debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 171 off 387 balls whereas skipper Rohit Sharma contributed with 103 off 221. The opening stand added 229 runs. However, they lost Shubman Gill (6 off 11) and Ajinkya Rahane (3 off 11) cheaply. Currently, Virat Kohli is batting at 72* off 170 balls and is supported expertly by Ravindra Jadeja at 21* off 52 balls. The lead for India is at 250 runs.

Virat Kohli scored his 29th Test half-century

Notably, Virat Kohli has played patiently in this innings scoring just five boundaries in his knock of 72* so far. His reaction after hitting the third boundary of his innings has gone viral online. While some fans criticised him for celebrating a boundary many said it was just a frustrated sigh at the Indian dressing room for not signalling him that the ball had already crossed the boundary while he was still running between the wickets.

This is Kohli’s 29th half-century in Tests. Surprisingly, if he successfully converts it into a hundred it will become his 29th hundred in Tests as well. As of now, the plan is clear for Team India. They will be looking to declare the innings after adding some more runs to their lead. Judging from the performance of West Indies in the first innings, it is highly likely that they’d succumb to this Indian bowling attack once again. Team India would aim to wrap things up on the fourth day itself and get off the mark in World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle. While for West Indies it seems to be a fight for survival more than anything.
