In seven matches, Shami secured 24 wickets with an impressive average of 10.70 and a strike rate of 12.20, achieving his best figures of 7/57. During the tournament, Shami recorded three five-wicket hauls and a four-wicket haul, setting the record for the best bowling figures by an Indian in World Cup history. Following his outstanding performance, Shami is now in the running for India’s prestigious sports award, the ‘Arjuna Award.’
Fans, who have been continuously praising Shami for his exceptional bowling displays in the World Cup, are expressing their wishes for the speedster to receive the award. In his 18 World Cup appearances, Shami has accumulated 55 wickets at an average of 13.52 and a strike rate of 15.81, boasting the best figures of 7/57. With four five-wicket hauls in his World Cup career, he holds the record for the most by any bowler and ranks as the fifth-highest wicket-taker in tournament history.

Talking about India’s ODI World Cup 2023 performance, they were brilliant throughout the tournament by winning 10 back-to-back matches including the semi-final against New Zealand. However, they lost the final contest by 6 wickets against Australia on November 19 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
