‘Agar haarte toh gaya tha Gill’ – Fans react as Rohit Sharma responds to his run out against Afghanistan in first T20I

Rohit Sharma has reacted to the miscommunication between him and Shubman Gill that led to his dismissal against Afghanistan. In the first T20I of the series at Mohali, Rohit was making his return to the T20I side after more than 14 months. The Indian opener would have loved to make a good comeback by scoring some runs to help India win the match.

What transpired though was unfortunate, as the Indian captain was dismissed via an unfortunate run out. Chasing 159 runs, Fazalhaq Farooqi started the bowling for Afghanistan. The Indian opener tried to attack the left-arm pacer right from the word go and stepped out of the crease in an attempt to dispatch the ball over the mid-off fielder. But Rohit could not get the timing.

It meant that the ball went straight to the fielder’s hand. Rohit had already made up his mind to take a single and hence ran quickly. Gill at the other end did not even look at Rohit and was looking at the ball. The incident led to the dismissal of Rohit, who was furious at the young batter. Rohit scolded Gill on his way to the pavilion and was visibly frustrated with the way he got out.

India ended up winning the match by 6 wickets. Shivam Dube starred in the win of India. Shubman himself scored 23 runs in 12 balls and helped the cause of the home side. Rohit was asked to speak about the win of India in the match. Rohit praised the likes of Dube, Gill, Axar Patel, and others who performed well. He also touched upon his dismissal in the middle.

Rohit said that he wanted Gill to play a big knock. He added that Gill played a sweet little cameo and helped the team’s cause. The star batter later accepted the dismissal and added that such things happen on the cricket field. “I wanted Shubman Gill to carry on. He played a beautiful little hand. These things happen, it’s absolutely alright,” said Rohit after the match.
