Discarded India Test batters, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane have posted a video each of practicing ahead of the Ranji Trophy. They last played together for India in the World Test Championship 2023 final. Rahane had made his comeback. After the final, Pujara was dropped from the team for the West Indies while Rahane was retained.

However, with the latter’s failure with the bat, the former India vice-captain was dropped from the team. Meanwhile, both players weren’t considered for the ongoing two-match Test series against South Africa. In the first Test, the Men In Blue struggled with the bat in the second innings as the team was bowled out for 131 runs. With this, the team lost the game by an innings and 32 runs.

Meanwhile, a few days back, Rahane posted a video of him practicing in the nets. This was followed by Pujara.

Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane had enormous success for India: Sourav Ganguly

Meanwhile, during an interview, former India skipper Sourav Ganguly spoke about why the likes of Rahane and Pujara are excluded from the South Africa series.

“At some point of time you have to play new talents. It happens, there is enormous talent in India and the team has to progress. Pujara and Rahane had enormous success for India, sport doesn’t remain with you forever,” Ganguly said at the sidelines of an event.

“You cannot be there forever, it will happen to everyone. I must thank them what they have done for Indian cricket and selectors want fresh faces, so that’s the way it is.”
