David Warner who announced his retirement from Test cricket is likely to be a commentator in the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25. The Australian batter had announced that the summer of 2024 would be his last assignment in Test cricket months before he even played the series. As a result, he is now playing his last series as a player against Pakistan. This is Warner’s retirement match at Sydney.

In the Pink Test against Pakistan, Warner has been able to score 34 runs in the first innings. The star batter applied himself well to the conditions and managed to give a good start to the home side against a fired-up bowling attack against Pakistan. The 37-year-old hit some lovely drives and had cut the ball well before getting dismissed. Before rain became an interruption to the game, Warner shined.

In the last few months, Warner has not been able to give his best as a batter in the longest format of the game. With him only ageing, Warner decided to retire from Tests. After the conclusion of the ODI WC 2023, Warner decided to retire from ODIs as well. After the end of the summer of 2024, Warner will be concentrating only on T20 cricket for Australia and other franchises.

Is David Warner in a new role?

The latest reports have claimed that the star player might be seen as a commentator in the series against India. The Border Gavaskar Trophy has attained a great status in the past 25 years. Warner himself has won it several times at home. If what reports suggest are to be believed, he might be a part of the panel of commentators in the big series which will happen next summer in Australia.

India has humiliated Australia in all the Border Gavaskar Trophies since 2017. Australia has managed to clinch just 2 wins at home and away each in the period. India has won all the series in the period against Australia and would be looking forward to doing the same yet again. Australia would be aiming to win their first home series against India since 2014/15.
