Cricket fans on social media often indulge in a war about the age-old debate of who is the superior finisher between the two legends of the game AB de Villiers and MS Dhoni has taken a new twist. However, the former South African cricketer himself has weighed in on this intriguing discussion, and his verdict might surprise some fans.

The South African cricket legend acknowledged the remarkable finishing abilities of both players but ultimately gave the nod to India’s former captain, MS Dhoni. De Villiers lauded Dhoni’s unparalleled calmness under pressure, astute cricketing brain, and ability to finish games with finesse.

“Obviously me (laughs). No, I would say definitely MS Dhoni (on who is the better finisher). I love watching him play. The things he has pulled off in the past… I think of that 2011 World Cup – hitting that straight six to win the World Cup. That will be engraved in my mind forever. MS has done it so many times in all formats of the game,” De Villiers was quoted as saying by CricTracker.

“There’s always been a big debate over who’s the best finisher – me or him? We can settle it now – I say MS is the best finisher. I am very happy to give credit where credit is due. For CSK in the T20s and IPL and for India in all formats of the game – just a fantastic person, just a fantastic man. A great role model for all cricket players around the world,” he added.

Who do you believe is a better finisher?

While AB de Villiers is renowned for his explosive batting style and ability to turn matches in an instant, he believes that Dhoni’s mastery in chasing down targets and handling tight situations sets him apart.

This revelation adds another layer to the evergreen debate in cricketing circles and serves as a testament to the enduring greatness of both players. Regardless of the verdict, cricket fans worldwide can agree that both de Villiers and Dhoni have left an indelible mark on the art of finishing in cricket for their respective nation.
