There are multiple rumours around social media about the alleged rift between the former legendary Indian cricketer MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir. However, it is believed that the rift is only limited to their supporters as both players have a lot of mutual respect for each other.

It is true that Gambhir has talked about Dhoni’s iconic World Cup-winning six multiple times. He criticises the fans for giving the whole credit to Dhoni for winning the World Cup but he has never uttered a bad word about the former India captain. Instead, there are multiple occasions where the former left-handed batter has praised Dhoni.

Once again Gambhir has heaped praise on Dhoni but this time as a batter. Gambhir believes that if Dhoni had batted 1 down in his career, he would have broken multiple white ball batting records. According to Gambhir, captaincy took some part of his batting due to which he had to sacrifice his batting position. Dhoni has an impressive average of 82.9 in just 16 innings while batting at no. 3.

“If MS Dhoni batted 1 down, he would have broken many white ball batting records. Captaincy took away some part of his batting, and he sacrificed his international runs for the team’s trophies.” Dhoni said in a conversation with Jatin Sapru in Star Sports.

Rohit Sharma is Rohit Sharma today because of MS Dhoni: Gautam Gambhir

Gambhir also talked about Indian captain Rohit Sharma hitting 10,000 runs in the ODI format where he credited Dhoni as he believes that the former captain backed him in his struggling phase. Rohit didn’t create much impact on the team while batting in the middle order. But as soon as he started playing as an opener, he became India’s one of the finest cricketers.

“Scoring 10,000 runs was not easy for him. Saw many ups and downs. Having seen that phase, Rohit, as a captain, will back youngsters who go through a difficult period. Rohit Sharma is Rohit Sharma today because of MS Dhoni. MS backed him continuously in his initial struggling phase. If he wants to leave a legacy behind, not in terms of runs but as a captain, a lot will depend on how he backs the young players. It will be interesting to see how he grooms the upcoming players,” Gambhir said.
