India have given a target of 365 runs to West Indies in the 2nd Test of the 2-match Test series at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain. The Indian team have a great chance to clean sweep the series as they need only 8 wickets to win the match while the Caribbean side still need to score 289 runs to level the series on Day 5.

Indian bowlers wrapped up the West Indies side on 255 runs in the first innings and after gaining a 183-run lead, the Indians came out all guns blazing. Within 12 overs, the openers put together a 98-run partnership before being both dismissed on either side of the rain break. The newly promoted No. 4 batsman, Ishan Kishan, scored his first Test fifty off just 33 deliveries, enabling Rohit Sharma to declare and give the home team a target of 365.

West Indies had a decent start in chasing the target, with Kraigg Brathwaite appearing engaged against the pacers. The breakthrough was made by R Ashwin, who first took out the Windies captain for the second time in the match before dismissing Kirk McKenzie in the next over. No further setbacks occurred until stumps on Day 4 thanks to Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Jermaine Blackwood, who both have already stitched 32 runs in the process.

I knew what the team needed from me: Ishan Kishan

On the last day, batting may become more difficult since Indian bowlers may make more movements with the ball if it rains. But additional rain could cause the game to end with no results. In the meantime, Kishan discussed his performance after the game and claimed that Virat Kohli encouraged him to bat at position number four.

“Was really special. I knew what the team needed from me. Everyone backed me. Virat backed me and told me go and play your game. Let’s hope we will finish the game tomorrow. It was Virat bhai who took the initiative and told that I should go in. There was a slow left-armer who was bowling. It was a good call for the team. Sometimes you need to take these calls.” Kishan said after the match.
