MI women won the match by 7 wickets in the WPL 2024. The defending champions made a terrific comeback after the loss against UP Warriorz. Despite missing key players like Harmanpreet Kaur and Shabnim Ismail, the visiting side defeated RCB women in their own backyard. The home side was stunned by the performances of young players. At no point did RCB look like winning.

MI women won the toss and opted to field first. Smriti Mandhana, Sophie Devine, and S Meghana returned to the pavilion early. From there, Ellyse Perry waged a lone battle. She did not get enough support from the other end. Richa Ghosh and Sophie Molineux could not stay longer. Perry was joined by Georgia Wareham who played a good hand. The duo framed a good partnership for the 6th wicket.

If not for their partnership, RCB women would’ve been dismissed for a lower score. Their contribution helped RCB women to post 131 runs on the board, which was way too low. For MI women, Pooja Vastrakar and Nat Sciver Brunt bowled well. The duo claimed two wickets each and stopped RCB women from scoring runs. The home side was timid in their approach which cost them dearly.

Amelia Kerr takes MI women home

132 wasn’t going to be a difficult chase. The start from Yastika Bhatia only proved it to be right, as she raced away to 31(15) in quick time and killed the game. Hayley Mathews added a valuable contribution from her end. Nat Sciver Brunt added some runs with Mathews at the other end. As the two perished, Amelia Kerr took the responsibility of taking MI women home.

The star batter scored an unbeaten 40*(24) and helped MI women to chase down the total in a clinical manner. In the end, MI women secured a 7-wicket win with 29 balls to spare. A collective team effort helped MI women beat RCB women. The home side will be desperate for a win in the upcoming game. MI women have gone to the top spot in the points table.
