Imran Khan has been sentenced to 14 years in jail along with his wife for the Toshakhana case. It is proved that the 1992 World Cup-winning captain was retaining expensive gifts during his tenure as a PM of Pakistan. For the illegal sale of state gifts, the former Pakistan cricketer has paid the price.

On Tuesday, the anti-graft court in Islamabad gave its verdict for the case, just a day after the verdict came on the Cipher case involving the former Pakistan captain and party’s deputy, Shah Mahmood Qureshi. The duo was handed an imprisonment of ten years for their involvement in the case.

In the latest case, both Imran and his wife Bushra Bibi have been handed imprisonment for 14 years. Additionally, the couple are disqualified from holding the office for 10 years. There has also been a reported fine of 787 million Rupees each for the duo. The news was confirmed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

‘Another sad day in our judicial system history’ – Imran Khan’s media team

In their statement, the media team of the former Pakistan cricketer claimed it to be a sad day in the judicial history of the country. The statement claimed that no province was given for cross questioning and there were no final arguments. It was claimed that the result of the case was already determined before the hearing. The media team concluded saying that the ‘Ridiculous decision’ would be challenged by them.

“Another sad day in our judicial system history, which is being dismantled. No cross-questioning allowed, no final argument concluded and decision pops up like a pre-determined process in play. This ridiculous decision will also be challenged,” said the media team in their statement. Toshakhana comes under the Cabinet division in the government of Pakistan.

The rules claim that the officials can have gifts priced at PKR 30000. The duo has failed to obey the rules set for the government officials. It is understood that the people in power can hold gifts in the office till they pay for it. As the duo did not deposit for the same, the court has found the couple guilty.
