5 players who might retire after ODI World Cup 2023
ODI World Cup 2023 is just around the corner as the grand event is set to kick off on October 5 where the 2019 World Cup finalists England and New Zealand will clash against each other at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Almost all the teams have arrived in India for the early preparations.
The upcoming grand event will be the first major tournament for some of the young players from all the nations which are participating. However, there are also some players who will be playing their last World Cup. On that note, let’s take a look at the possible players who will retire after the ODI World Cup 2023.
5. David Warner
Australia’s veteran opening left-handed batter David Warner has been serving his nation for a long time. However, there have been multiple reports of Warner taking retirement from all forms of cricket over the next year which means this year’s World Cup will be his last ODI World Cup.
4. Trent Boult
New Zealand’s renowned fast bowler Trent Boult gave up his contract with the national cricket board earlier this year to spend more time with his family and focus on the franchise leagues. However, somehow, he was convinced to play for the Blackcaps in the upcoming World Cup but it is to be believed that he might take retirement after the grand event.
3. Ben Stokes
England’s star allrounder and 2019 World Cup hero Ben Stokes already took retirement from the 50-over format but is recalled for the ODI World Cup 2023. It won’t be wrong to say that he will again take the retirement after serving for England in the upcoming grand event.
2. Kane Williamson
New Zealand cricket team captain and veteran batter Kane Williamson is still in the recovery process from the injury he sustained during the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, he has been included in the squad for the World Cup but it is believed that Williamson might shift his whole focus to the Test format which means that he might take retirement from ODI soon.
1. Rohit Sharma
India captain and destructive opening batter Rohit Sharma will be leading the Indian side for the first time in an ODI World Cup. Rohit is currently 36 years of age which means that there are high chance of him retiring from the ODI format after the 2023 World Cup.
