Ricky Ponting did not have a reputation for being the best batter in the Indian conditions. The former Australian skipper averaged less than 30 in India. Viv Richards was one of the greatest batters of his time. The star batter was way ahead of his time and tamed the best bowlers in the world of his time. On his very first tour in 1974, Viv scored a hundred on debut. He took his game to a different level at his prime and scored 1710 runs in 1976, the second most for a batter in a calendar year. Viv Richards scored eight hundred against India in the longest format of the game.

Garry Sobers was a terrific batter and one of the greatest All-rounders the sport has ever seen. The Southpaw performed well against the top teams of his time like England and Australia. In addition to that, the star batter was terrific against India. Particularly in India, Sobers had good numbers and played the Indian spinners well. Sir Garry was regarded as one of the best players of spin. No wonder why he had a great record in India against the great spinners. Garry Sobers smashed eight hundred against India in the longest format of the game.

The hundred he scored in Pune in 2017 on a raging turner was an example of his class. Smith has a brilliant record against India both at home and away from home. Steve Smith has nine hundred against India in Test cricket.

Joe Root now has the greatest number of hundreds for a batter in Tests against India. The middle-order batter scored his 10th Test hundred against India in the ongoing Test in Ranchi in the 4th Test. The right-handed batter has a sensational record against India in Tests. He is incredible at home and very good in India against India. In the previous tour of India, Root played his 100th Test in Chennai. He scripted history and became the first batter to smash a 200 on the 100th Test. The experienced batter has a good chance of improving his record against India in the upcoming days.
