3 youngest batters to score double hundreds for India in Tests
The Indian Cricket team is known for its batters in cricket. The team which has been playing the sport since 1932 has produced many great batters in different timelines. Time has passed by, but India has been able to produce world-class batters time and again. Right from the 1940s to now in the 2020s, India has been lucky to find batters that have dominated the game and set new milestones for fun.
From Vijay Hazare and Vijay Merchant in the 1940s to Gundappa Viswanath and Sunil Gavaskar in the 1970s, to Dilip Vengsarkar and Mohammad Azharuddin in the 1980s, to Sachin Tendulkar in 1990s, to Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag, and VVS Laxman in the 2000s, to Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the 2010s, and many others, India has been fortunate enough to produce them all.
India is continuing to produce many talents who can go on to become future greats. A couple of them are already in the Indian team currently. One of them scored over 1500 ODI runs in 2023 and the other has just scored his maiden Test 200. It is evident that the stepping stone for the success of these players is laid from the grassroots levels. As a result, they come to the international level as players who are ready.
Here are the three Indian batters who have scored double hundreds in Test cricket at a very young age.
3. Yashasvi Jaiswal
In the 2nd Test match of the on-going series between India and England, Jaiswal became the third youngest Indian batter to score a Test double hundred. Jaiswal got to the milestone at the age of 22 years and 35 days. To score at such a young age is an amazing feat without a doubt.
Yashasvi scored 209 runs in 290 balls which included several boundaries. The talented batter scored as many runs with little support from the other end. The 2nd highest score by a batter at the other end was 34. It shows how good the knock of the youngster was in Vizag.

2. Sunil Gavaskar

In one of the matches in the series, Gavaskar showed his brilliance at a very young age. At Port of Spain, Gavaskar butchered the WI bowlers and scored 220 runs. The star batter was 21 years and 283 days old when he set the record, which was broken 22 years later by yet another Mumbaikar.
1. Vinod Kambli
Vinod Kambli made headlines with two double hundreds at a very young age. At the age of 21, the Southpaw scored two double hundreds within a month. Kambli scored 224 against England in 1993 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, which is rated as one of the greatest batting knocks by a young batter.
The former Indian batter scored it when he was just 21 years and 35 days old. While it was highly impressive, Kambli took just 20 days more to score his 2nd Test double hundred. Against Zimbabwe, Vinod scored 227 runs at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. He was 21 years and 55 days old while scoring a great double.
