The anticipation for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) auction 2024 has reached a fever pitch as 1166 players, including 830 Indians and 336 foreign players, gear up for a shot at joining one of the prestigious IPL franchises. With the auction set to take place in Dubai on 19th December, fans are closely following the developments, especially after the release of the final list of retained and released players by the IPL teams.

One player who has stirred up headlines ahead of the auction is the former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) player, Kedar Jadhav. Having been released by the franchise, Jadhav has set a surprising base price of INR 2 crores for the auction. This move has sparked criticism from fans who believe that his recent performances may not warrant such a high starting bid. The base price is crucial as it serves as the starting point for the bidding on a player during the auction.

Joining Jadhav with a base price of INR 2 crores are Indian players Umesh Yadav, Harshal Patel, and Shardul Thakur. This places these four cricketers in a unique bracket, setting the stage for intense bidding wars as teams strategise their player acquisitions.

Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer have opted out of IPL 2024 auction

The diversity of the player pool is evident, with 212 capped players and a majority of 909 uncapped players vying for attention. Notably, 45 players from associate countries have thrown their hats into the ring, adding an international flavour to the auction. Mitchell Starc, the Australian fast bowler, is making a comeback to the IPL after an almost 8-year hiatus.

Meanwhile, Travis Head, known for his impressive century in the World Cup final against India, is also set to be part of the auction. However, there are notable absentees, with England’s fast bowler Jofra Archer opting not to register for the auction. Along with him, Ben Stokes has also opted out from the auction and was also released by the 5-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
