Pakistan Cricket team is going through a period of chaos after failing to qualify for the final of the Asia Cup 2022. They lost heavily (228 runs) against India and lost a last-ball encounter against Sri Lanka. With the ODI World Cup coming in less than a month, the team and board are desperate for some measures before the tournament starts.

Meanwhile, mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed might replace Shadab Khan, who is currently the vice-captain. Notably, there are reports suggesting that the team would be without a vice-captain during the tournament. Now, fresh reports by Geo News, Pakistan suggest that Ahmad, who plays Test cricket for the Green Brigade, might get a call for the showpiece event, starting on October 5 in India.

The Islamabad United skipper, Khan has had a tough time with the ball in the last few months. During the Asia Cup 2023, Pakistan didn’t have a quality spinner which led to them missing another final against India. Against India in Group A and Super Four games, Shadab and Mohammad Nawaz proved to be futile against India’s batting line-up.

In the must-win game against Sri Lanka, the spinners and their entire bowling in the middle order proved to be nearly ineffective. Even though Iftikhar Ahmad took three wickets, it was only a matter of time before the Lankan Lions would have won the game.

Pakistan to announce their ODI World Cup 2023

Meanwhile, there are some teams alongside Pakistan that are yet to announce their squad. On the other hand, some teams have announced their preliminary squad for the tournament. They can make changes in the team before September 28. Notably, the defending champions, England have already done so as they left out Jason Roy and replaced him with Harry Brook.

On the other hand, the 1992 winners might announce their squad on the last day of the deadline.
