India and West Indies clashed against each other in the 2nd T20I of the 5-match T20I series at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Sunday, August 6. The Caribbean side once again displayed a brilliant performance and defeated the Indian team by 2 wickets.

Talking about the match, India won the toss and elected to bat first but the decision backfired as the opening pair of Shubman Gill and Ishan disappointed the fans as Kishan scored 27 runs while Gill was able to score only 7 runs. The no. 1 T20I ranked batter in the world Suryakumar Yadav continued to fail as he got run out after scoring just 1 run.

However, Tilak Varma batted brilliantly and smashed his maiden T20I half-century in the 2nd match of his international career. He scored 51 runs off 41 deliveries which included 5 fours and 1 six. Apart from him, skipper Hardik Pandya scored 24 runs and Axar Patel also contributed 14 runs. However, the score wasn’t enough as the Men in Blue ended up scoring just 152 runs.

Windies’ bowlers displayed a brilliant performance especially Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph and Romario Shepherd as all three got 2 wickets each for themselves. Jason Holder also bowled economically as he conceded just 29 runs in his 4 overs quota.

A brilliant all-round performance by West Indies

Chasing the target, the Caribbean side started horribly as they lost their 2 batters in the very first over of Pandya. Kyle Mayers also departed in the 4th over after 15 runs which included 2 fours and 1 sixes. However, Nicholas Pooran and skipper Rovman Powell steadied the ship and stitched a 57-run stand.

Skipper Pandya provided a much-needed breakthrough as he dismissed Powell on the score of 21 runs. However, Pooran continued to score runs and ended up scoring 67 runs off just 40 deliveries which included 6 fours and 4 sixes. But then came the veteran spinner Yuzvendra Chahal dismissed Shimron Hetmyer and Holder in the same over.

But the tailenders, Akeal Hosein and Alzarri Joseph held their nerves and stitched an unbeaten 26-run stand. They helped the team to achieve the target with 7 balls remaining. With this win, Windies have now taken a 2-0 lead over India.
