Team India are gearing up for the ‘Super 4’ action in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 as they will play Pakistan on 10 September. Then, they will play against Sri Lanka on 12 September and on 15 September, they will play against Bangladesh. However, Shubman Gill made a solid comeback in the second game against Nepal after his failure against the Men in Green.

In their tournament opener against Pakistan, Gill scored just 10 runs off 32 balls while against Nepal, he smashed 67* runs off 62 balls, Gill also stitched an unbeaten partnership of 147* runs with Rohit Sharma. So, fans will hope to see him continuing this form in the upcoming matches. Even, he got rewarded for this knock as he has now become the new number three-ranked batter in ODIs.

“Quite disappointed with the way I got out day before yesterday.” – Shubman Gill after Nepal clash

As per the recent update by the Apex Council of Cricket, Gill is currently sitting in the third spot with a 750 rating. Above him, South Africa’s Rassie van der Dussen is in the second spot with a 777 rating. Pakistan skipper, Babar Azam is still the number one-ranked batter in ODIs with a rating of 882. However, apart from Gill, there is only one batter from Team India in the top 10 as he is Virat Kohli. He is in the 10th spot with a rating of 695.

After scoring an unbeaten 67* runs against Nepal, Gill said: “Quite disappointed with the way I got out day before yesterday. Important that I finished it off tonight with Rohit bhai, and we did it. He likes to take the bowlers on aerial, and I like to hit more boundaries than sixes, so we complement each other.” Speaking about his ODI career so far, Gill has played 29 matches and scored 1514, including seven fifties and four centuries. He even has a double century (208 vs New Zealand in Hyderabad) to his name in this format.
