In the first Test of the ongoing two-match series, South Africa beat India by 32 runs and an innings. Star South Africa batter Dean Elgar has been phenomenal throughout the game as his amazing century helped the hosts continue their dominance over the Men in Blue.

After losing the toss, India skipper Rohit Sharma has been asked to bat first. However, things didn’t go well for India as the top order failed to put up a show with the bat. Rohit was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada, while Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal also failed to perform. However, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer showcased a resilient show with the bat and tried to rescue India. Both scored 30-odd runs before getting dismissed by Rabada.

However, wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul showcased an amazing display from the bat as he smashed a magnificent century. His amazing batting performance and crucial partnerships with lower-order batters helped India post a competitive total of 245/10. Rahul, in his innings, scored 101 runs off 137 balls with the help of 14 fours and four sixes. Rabada shined for South Africa as he clinched five wickets.

Dean Elgar pulls out a magnificent victory

Chasing a competitive total, South Africa had a poor start as opener Aiden Markram failed to put up a show. However, another Opener, Dean Elgar, hammered India’s bowling line-up and stitched crucial partnerships with Marco Jansen and debutant Bedingham. Bedingham and Jansen smashed beautiful half-centuries as they scored 56 and 84 runs, respectively.

Elgar, in his innings, scored 185 runs off 287 balls with the help of 28 boundaries. His amazing batting performance helped South Africa post 408/10 in the first inning, taking an invincible lead of 163 runs. Chasing a huge deficit, India failed once again as they were bundled up for a mere 131 runs. Apart from Virat Kohli, not a single batter looked comfortable against fiery South African pacers. Kohli, in his inning, scored 76 runs off 82 balls with the help of 12 fours and a six. With this win, SA got a hefty 1-0 lead in the series.
