World Cup Predictions: Uruguay vs Ghana

After coming out on top in an exhilarating 3-2 affair on Monday evening, Ghana will hope to round off their group stage campaign with another win when they meet Uruguay on Friday.

La Celeste have only one point to their name after two matches and desperately need to defeat Ghana to remain in round of 16 permutations.

Ghana have the golden opportunity to avenge their controversial 2010 World Cup quarterfinal loss against Uruguay.

Luis Suárez, who is still a vital figure in the Uruguay national team setup, intentionally used his hands to stop the ball from crawling into the net.

Suárez was sent off immediately, but the gamble paid off as Asamoah Gyan fired the ball into the stands without troubling Fernando Muslera at the Uruguayan goal.

The match went to penalties and Ghana lost the game.

Now, the Black Stars can knock Uruguay out from the competition with a win. Ghana have had two frenetic matches in the World Cup.

In the first one, they saw Portugal snatching away a 3-2 win.The next one swung in their favour though as Otto Addo’s men held on to their 3-2 lead till the end. Ghana survived a late South Korean onslaught to retain their advantage.

Uruguay came into the World Cup as an unknown entity.

Diego Alonso helped the two time world champions to turn around their form in the qualifiers. But in Qatar, Uruguay have been one of the worst performers so far.

In their World Cup opener, Uruguay could not find their way past South Korea.

It did not help to replenish their depleted confidence level. Alonso’s men edged closer toward a group stage exit when they followed up their opening day draw with a defeat against Portugal.

Uruguay’s knockout stage hopes are pretty slim at the moment. Only a big win against Ghana can keep them in the knockout stage qualification race.

Ghana don’t have any new injury worries to deal with before the game. The mercurial Mohammed Kudus was taken off before the final whistle in both of the first two matches.

He will be fully fit and ready to play Uruguay. Thomas Partey and Salis Abdul Samed will renew their partnership at the middle of the park.

Luis Suárez and Edinson Cavani used to be one of the fiercest duo in world football.

But the veteran strikers failed to make a mark in this World Cup. So, Alonso might choose to look for alternatives in his starting lineup.

Maxi Gómez and Darwin Núñez could lead the line from the start.

Uruguay will go all guns blazing for a win, but Ghana could be a tricky opposition to beat for them.

Despite the attacking talents, Alonso has failed to find the right attacking balance in his side.

So, Ghana will feel confident to take something from the game. This could be a one-all draw.
