World Cup Predictions: Brazil vs Switzerland

Brazil’s World Cup 2022 campaign took off in an emphatic fashion as Seleção Canarinho picked up an effortless 2-0 win against Serbia.

In a potential group winner decider, they take on Switzerland on Monday night.

The Swiss enter the fray on the back of a 1-0 win over Cameroon and will hope to replicate or even better their last World Cup performance against the record-time world champions, when they secured a 1-1 draw.

Serbia were touted as a tricky team to face by many because of their assortment of rich talents. But the Eagles proved to be no match for the mighty Selecao as they could not register any on-target shot throughout the match.

Brazil, on the other hand, had 24 efforts, 9 of which were goalbound. From the first whistle to the last, Tite’s men were in cruise control of the tie.

Questions were asked about Richarlison leading the Brazil attack despite not being a regular starter at Tottenham.

The 25-year-old responded with a brace to silence his critics. He scored his second with a stunning bicycle kick. We still have weeks of World Cup action left, but we might have already seen the goal of the tournament.

Unlike their Monday night opponents, Switzerland did not turn heads in their World Cup opener. But they did what mattered and put three points on the board.

Breel Embolo scored the only goal of the match as Switzerland picked up a 1-0 win. Yan Sommer made five saves to keep the scoreline unchanged and secured a clean sheet that has been rare for the Swiss rearguard lately.

Switzerland now have a four-match winning run behind them.

Two of those wins came against European bigshots Portugal and Spain. So, Brazil will be making a grave mistake if they don’t tread lightly.

Team News

The Brazil medical team could not provide reassuring news to their fans regarding Neymar’s availability.

The Paris Saint-Germain star suffered an ankle injury during the Serbia game. It’s now been confirmed that he will not be back before the knockout stages roll in.

It remains to be seen how Tite plans to deal with Neymar’s absence.

Lucas Paquetá could move further up the pitch, and Fred might take his place in midfield alongside his Manchester United colleague Casemiro.

Danilo also went out with an injury and will not be back in the remaining group matches.

Éder Militão should deputise for the Juventus man. Dani Alves is also an option.

Denis Zakria did not get any minutes in the last match for Switzerland.

The midfielder is going through a rough patch as he has been mostly unused by his new club Chelsea as well.

Murat Yakin might not want to make any changes to the winning team, so Zakaria might have to watch on from the bench once again.
