ICC T20: Windies end Bangladesh hopes

Windies beat Bangladesh in a very close game by 3 runs and secured their first win of the tournament.

This was the third loss in a row for Bangladesh and with this loss, they are out of the race for the semi-finals.

Bangladesh tried hard but the awesome bowling of Andre Russell prevented them from getting the 13 runs in the final over of the game.

Bangladesh was only able to make 9 runs.

Nicholas Pooran who contributed a crucial 40 runs for Windies awarded as player of the match.  

Windies lose openers quickly

Bangladesh invited Windies to bat first and picked up some early breakthroughs.

Windies lost Gayle (4) and Lewis (6) within 20 runs in the powerplay.

The openers were sent back by pavilion Mustafizur Rahman and Mahedi Hasan respectively. 

Roston Chase (39) held up one side and but didn’t get much support from the other end.

Hetmyer (9), Pollard (14), and Russell (0) came and went in quick succession.

The Windies desperately needed a partnership and just when needed, Nicholas Pooran(40) added 65 runs stand with Chase.

Chase was dismissed by Mustafizur and Pooran by Shoriful Islam.

Again, Windies was on the back foot as they lost the wicket of Bravo for just 1.

Bangladesh displayed a great bowling performance in the death overs, but Holder managed a quick 15 runs for the Windies.

West Indies ended with a score of 142 in 20 overs.

Bangladesh make a bad start

The score was not big, but Bangladesh didn’t start well and lost their openers Shakib Al Hassan (9) and Mohammad Naim (17) in the powerplay.

Holder and Russell sent both the openers back to the pavilion.

Liton Das (44) and Saumya Sarkar (17) tried their best and put on a stand of 31 runs.

Akeal Hossain then picked the wicket of Sarkar and broke the partnership.

Mushfiqur Rahman (9) added another 30 runs with Das but Rampaul bowled Rahman and broke the partnership again. 

Windies were picking wickets at regular intervals and put Bangladesh under constant pressure.

Mahmudullah (31) played a captain’s knock and added 40 runs with Liton Das.

Just when it looked like Bangladesh could win the game easily, Bravo took the wicket of Liton Das and brought Windies back again in the match. 

In the final over it was Mahmudullah vs Russell and 13 runs were needed.

Russell used his experience of death bowling and targeted the yorker length.

It became hard for Mahmudullah and Afif to free their arms.

Unfortunately, out of 13 runs Bangladesh was only able to score 9 in the final over and lost the game by 3 runs.

Bangladesh fans would be disappointed with the performance of the team.

It could have won the game easily, but they allowed Windies to build pressure on them.

With this loss, Bangladesh has lost the opportunity to reach in semi-finals.

Bangladesh will now face South Africa on Nov 2 while West Indies will take on Sri Lanka on Nov 4.
