Will Man City beat West Ham and seal title on Sunday?

Manchester City will be looking to essentially end the Premier League title race when they play West Ham on Sunday.

A win against the Hammers will take the Citizens’ total points tally to 92.

The maximum points Liverpool can collect this season is 92.

Thanks to City’s superior goal difference, a Sunday afternoon win at Etihad will all but confirm their fourth Premier League triumph in five years.

West Ham come into the tie on the back of a four-goal win against Norwich.

David Moyes could not lead the club to the Europa League final, but West Ham’s last match performance suggests he kept the club motivated to end the season on a high note.

West Ham aiming for Europa spot

A win against City at London Stadium will ensure Europa League football for West Ham next season.

Even a draw would significantly boost their chances of grabbing the final Europa League spot.

Said Benrahma fired a brace in West Ham’s 4-0 demolition of Norwich last weekend, while Manuel Lanzini and Michail Antonio also got their names on the scoresheet.

The win moved West Ham within three points of Manchester United with a game in hand.

Three points from their remaining two matches will retain West Ham’s Europa League status next season.

The Londoners could have already secured Europa League football by now if they did not have a dreadful run of four straight defeats.

After hosting the Citizens, West Ham will travel to the Amex Stadium to play Brighton in the closing day of the season.

Graham Potter’s team have shown that they are a tough nut to crack.

So, West Ham will be desperate to take something positive from the Man City game heading into the final day.

West Ham did not win in front of their home crowd since their win over 10-man Everton in early April.

The aspiring Premier League champions are not the perfect opponent to end their winless run.

If West Ham are to upset their Sunday afternoon guests, they will mostly be relying on their attacking threat.

Unfortunately, Moyes might not have Benrahma on the match day squad.

The Algerian came off with a knock alongside Craig Dawson and Antonio.

While the latter two are expected to feature, Benrahma will have to pass a late fitness test before the game.

Kevin de Bruyne was in a destructive mood against Wolves in midweek.

The Belgian found the back of the net four times as City went on to win the game by 5-1.

Manchester City will have the services of Erling Haaland next season, but the Citizens proved they have enough attacking ammunition even when they play without a traditional centre forward.

By the time City take the field on Sunday, Liverpool added another trophy to their cabinet this season by beating Chelsea in the FA Cup final.

While the Reds are still Premier League contenders, City can reduce their chances by significant margins with a win in London.

West Ham no pushovers

Even though City registered ten wins in their last 11 Premier League meetings with West Ham, they will be licking the wounds of their premature EFL Cup exit at the hands of West Ham.

Under Moyes, West Ham have shown that they are not afraid of taking the fight to the big boys.

They certainly have the firepower to take advantage of City’s poor defensive form.

Man City have a depleted defence ahead of the match.

Kyle Walker, John Stones, and Ruben Dias are out for the season.

Fernandinho and Aymeric Laporte also picked up knocks against Wolves.

There is no word regarding their availability as of yet.

Nathan Ake is expected to start, and he might have to play alongside makeshift centre back Rodri at the heart of the City defence.

Our Prediction

Man City’s make-do rearguard might not be enough to contain the attacking threat West Ham pose.

But, City also have a wealth of attacking talents, who could more than compensate for City’s defensive vulnerabilities.

We expect a 4-2 win for Manchester City.
