Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been released abruptly from the Indian ODI squad for the three-match series against Bangladesh.

As per the BCCI, Pant was released following consultation with the BCCI medical team.

No replacement has been sought and KL Rahul will keep wickets in place of Pant.

Though no reason has been given for Pant’s departure, we can guess it’ something to do with workload management.

Pant has been the only first team all-format player to have not got a break after the T20 World Cup in Australia last month.

The likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were rested after India’s semifinal defeat to England in the T20 World.

However, Pant flew with the team to New Zealand for a six-match limited overs series.

Pant will make his return to the national side for the two Tests against Bangladesh.
