What will happen if India vs Sri Lanka Asia Cup title clash gets rained out in Colombo?
The Indian Cricket team are set to clash against the co-hosts in the final match of the Asia Cup 2023 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday, September 17. However, there are high chance that the contest may get affected by the rain as almost every match of the tournament so far has been affected by it.
India haven’t lost a single match in the tournament so far. They will be playing the last match of the Super Fours stage on Friday, September 15 against Bangladesh. However, the contest will be a dead rubber as Bangladesh are already eliminated from the tournament while India are in the final.
The Indian team management will try some experiments before the final as senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah are likely to get rested. It is to be believed that they will make way for Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma and Prasidh Krishna.
Who will lift the trophy if the final gets washed out?
Talking about the weather on September 17 in Colombo, there is almost an 80% chance that the rain can ruin the contest. It is predicted that there will be a heavy shower between 1 pm to 7 pm at the venue. You must be wondering if it’s any ‘Reserve day’ for the final. Well, there’s bad news for you as there was a reserve day for only the India vs. Pakistan contest which was held on September 11.
Both teams will have to play at least 20 overs each to constitute an official ODI match. However, if the match gets washed out then Rohit Sharma and Dasun Shanaka will be sharing the Asia Cup 2023 trophy. The fans won’t be expecting this as both sides are the best teams in the tournament so far.
Sri Lanka have lost only 1 match in the tournament which was against India. Apart from that, they have performed brilliantly. They defeated Pakistan in a last-ball thriller to qualify for the final.
