Babar Azam and his team are enduring a tough time in the ongoing ODI World Cup. With three wins and six points, Pakistan are currently placed fifth in the points table and their semi-final qualification is in doubt. Captain Babar has also not been able to lead the team from the front with his batting prowess. Amid facing serious criticism for his failings as a captain and a batter, Babar has been in the news for some surprising reasons, which might lead to a flood of controversies.

According to reports, Babar has purchased a sherwani worth seven lakh rupees for his wedding during the World Cup. The 29-year-old is understood to have brought the designer sherwani at a renowned Indian designer’s boutique, Sabyasachi. Sources claim that Babar did this whopping splurge ahead of their match against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens on Tuesday, October 31. The Pakistan team arrived in Kolkata on Saturday for their crucial encounter against the Tigers.

Babar’s wedding is reported to take place at the end of this year. In addition to sherwani, he is said to have purchased jewellery worth lakhs while sitting in the lounge of a five-star hotel. It is not appropriate for a captain or player to get involved for personal reasons during such an important tournament like the World Cup. Given his batting performance and Pakistan’s poor outings so far, Babar is expected to be involved in a huge controversy over his shopping spree.

Pakistan beat Bangladesh to stay alive in the tournament

After back-to-back defeats, Pakistan got back to winning ways with a seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh on Tuesday. Shaheen Afridi (3/23), Mohammad Wasim Jr (3/31) and Haris Rauf (2/36) excelled with the ball to restrict Bangladesh to 204/10. In reply, openers Fakhar Zaman (81) and Abdullah Shafique (68) laid the foundation for a massive win.

“All credit to the boys the way we played in all three departments. We know, if Fakhar bats for 20-30 overs, it’s a different ball game, he played his natural game. Good to see him. We are trying to win the next two matches, we’ll see where we stand. We started well, the way Shaheen started. After 15-20 overs, they built a partnership, our main bowlers picked wickets. We picked wickets in the middle overs. Thank you (fans) so much for the support,” Babar said after the match.
